Matthew Duliba wants to clear his name. After season 6 of Love Is Blind premiered earlier this month, the 37-year-old senior financial advisor was not cast in the best light.
Matthew was seen entering the pods with a list of numbered questions, giving his dates a hard time, refusing to answer his own questions for them, and even walking out on them in the middle of some of their conversations.
While the Charlotte, North Carolina, native quickly became one of this season’s villains, he is now speaking out online, defending himself in the wake of the show’s resurgence in popularity.
After the Love Is Blind Instagram account posted a series of videos of Matthew in the pods exhibiting a slew of disrespectful dating moments, he took to the comments section.
“Key element of my story that was never disclosed is that I live an alcohol free lifestyle and did the experiment sober,” Matthew wrote from his personal account. “It was a key factor in why I had so much difficulty connecting with women in the beginning. There was also many misrepresentations and falsehoods created in my opinion to smear my character. I look forward to telling my side of the story with the full truth at the appropriate time.”
He added of one particular date, “Misrepresentation of the truth, never walked out when a women was talking.”
Fellow contestant Sarah Ann, who was one of the women Matthew was shown walking out on, confirmed his claim, writing on her Instagram Story, “Nope, he did not. I’ll let Matt speak on that but we are good.”
Matthew made connections with two contestants on the show — AD and Amber. But when the women began comparing his responses to each of them, they realized he’d been telling them the same things. When AD confronted Matthew about this, he walked out of the show, saying he was pursuing Amber.
AD went on to get engaged to contestant Clay Gravesande. She later explained her decision to ET.
“When he was able to let go of the player and that weird energy, I was like, ‘OK, I can let him in a little bit more,'” AD said of Clay.
New episodes of Love Is Blind drop Wednesdays on Netflix.
