Missing is a standalone follow-up to 2018’s hit thriller Searching, and there is a small but highly capable Missing cast to bring its story to life. The film, directed by Nicholas D. Johnson and Will Merrick, follows a teenager who uses the technology available to find her missing mother, with whom she has a strained relationship. Missing marks the directorial debut of Johnson and Merrick, who also co-wrote the script from a story by Searching scribes Sev Ohanian and Aneesh Chaganty.

The film has received mostly positive reviews, with an 88% Certified Fresh approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Thanks to the twists and turns, it was also a crowd-pleaser, with a Verified Fresh audience score of 90%. Missing is one of the rare films where the action takes place through technology—cameras, email, online services, etc. The film’s plot is strengthened by its solid cast, which is led by one of the stars of Euphoria.

Actor: Storm Reid portrays June Allen. Reid was 20 when Missing was released, but she had been acting since childhood. After debuting in the TV movie A Cross to Bear when she was nine, she enjoyed her breakout as the young child Emily in the historical drama 12 Years a Slave. Her biggest role was in the Oprah Winfrey-produced adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time in the lead role as Meg Murry. She also won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in The Last of Us and plays Gia in Euphoria.

Character: June Allen is a teenager who begins a search when her mother, Grace, goes missing. June thinks she knows her mother but is in for a few surprises. The movie shows June as a six-year-old right before her father dies of a brain tumor, and then it moves to 12 years later when she is 18, and her mother disappears while on vacation with her boyfriend, Kevin, in Colombia. June then uses all the digital tools at her command to investigate her mother’s disappearance.

Actor: Nia Long plays Grace Allen in the Missing cast. She started as a child actor in the Disney television film The B.R.A.T. Patrol, along with other young stars like Sean Astin and Brian Keith. She moved on to soap operas, with a three-year run on Guiding Light and a small role in Boyz n the Hood. She got prime time experience as Will Smith’s girlfriend on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and enjoyed one of her best roles in The Best Man franchise as Jordan. She also had lead roles in NCIS: Los Angeles and blackAF.

Character: Grace Allen is June’s mother. She goes missing while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend, Kevin, and she has a few secrets of her own. Most of Long’s appearances are on video and security footage. Some of the footage is not of Grace, since her kidnappers hired an actress to pretend to be June’s mother to throw her off while she is investigating the disappearance. Long finally makes her main appearance at the end when June shows up to help her mom escape.

Ken Leung as Kevin Lin

Actor: Ken Leung plays Kevin Lin in Missing. He was born in New York City to Chinese parents and began acting while working toward a physical therapy degree in college. He earned his first major attention when he starred as Miles Straume in Lost from 2008 to 2010. He also currently stars in the HBO drama series Industry. In movies, he has appeared in Rush Hour, Saw, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Red Dragon, and the 2021 M. Night Shyamalan film, Old.

Character: Kevin Lin is Grace Allen’s boyfriend, and there is more to him than meets the eye. Grace and Kevin had only been dating for a short time when they took a vacation together to Colombia and it’s during the vacation that Grace disappears. However, there is a reason that Kevin convinced Grace to go on this vacation with him, and when June finds out what is happening, she realizes that both her and her mother’s lives are in great danger.

Joaquim de Almeida as Javier Ramos – Javier Ramos is a Colombian man who aids June in her search to find her missing mother. Joaquim de Aleida is best known for his roles in the Netflix series Warrior Nun, the series 24, Queen of the South, Desperado, Clear and Present Danger, Fast Five, and Behind Enemy Lines.

Tim Griffin as James – James is June’s father who appears in an old video file. Believed to be dead, he also has a major secret hidden from June for her entire life and is the key to finding out what happened to her mother. Tim Griffin is best known for his roles in The Bourne Supremacy, the comedy film Central Intelligence, the Bradley Cooper movie American Sniper, and the drama series Prime Suspect.
