Prince William Does Not Attend Memorial Service for Late Godfather Due to Personal Reason, Source Says

Prince William was not able to attend a thanksgiving service for his late godfather, former King Constantine II.

On Tuesday, several royals stepped out at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, England, in honor of the last king of Greece, who died in Athens in January 2023 at the age of 82. Constantine II reigned as king from 1964 until the abolition of the Greek monarchy in 1973.  While many of his famous relatives — including Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, and Princess Beatrice — were in attendance, Prince William was notably missing from the service.

A royal source tells ET that “unfortunately the Prince of Wales is no longer able to attend the King Constantine memorial service this morning due to a personal matter.” ET has learned the father of three called his family to let them know he was unable to attend.

As for what is behind his absence, another source adds that there is no connection between Prince Williams’ personal matter today and King Charles III’s health. The monarch announced in early February that he has been diagnosed with cancer, though has not shared further specific details. King Charles is currently undergoing treatment and has been advised by his doctors to postpone public duties

Meanwhile, ET has learned Kate Middleton, who underwent abdominal surgery in January, continues to be doing well. She was last seen stepping out publicly in December, when she joined the rest of her family at a Christmas morning church service in Sandringham. However, William, who is said to be taking on more royal duties amid his father’s diagnosis, was more recently seen carrying out an engagement at the British Red Cross headquarters in London on Feb. 20.

King Constantine was a cousin to William’s grandfather, the late Prince Philip, and a familiar face at milestone royal events, including William’s confirmation and wedding.
